About
Hi, I'm Carol.
Portrait photographer in Washington, DC. Over four decades behind the camera and still learning.
I picked up my first serious camera in the early eighties and never really put it down. Since then, I've photographed families at every stage—new parents, empty nesters, three generations squeezed onto one couch—as well as executives, small-business owners, corporate events, and a good number of very patient dogs.
Most of my work happens in the DC Metro Area. I come to you. My favorite sessions happen in kitchens, backyards, corner offices, and the occasional Rock Creek Park trail. I bring the equipment. You just show up.
I'm at a point in my career where I only take the work I actually want to take. That means I say no when a booking isn't a fit, and when I say yes, I mean it. You'll have my full attention.
A few things I've learned the hard way: the best portraits happen once people forget I'm there. Kids will act out for about four minutes, then settle. Business headshots photograph best before 10am. And there is no such thing as bad light, only light you haven't figured out yet.
When I'm not working, I'm climbing. Mostly outdoors these days, Carderock and Great Falls. I mention it because people are sometimes surprised, and because it's the honest answer to what keeps me sharp. Forty years of the same craft will teach you a lot, but so will falling off a boulder problem at seventy.
If you'd like to work together, drop me a line. I'd love to hear about your session.
